How CPR is built

Regularized early, increasingly current as the season grows

Current performance · 55%

Offense receives a 1.5× emphasis relative to defense because offensive efficiency is more predictive.

Opponent adjustment · 35%

Net EPA is adjusted iteratively for opponent strength, with the adjustment gaining influence as schedules grow.

Regression signals · 10%

Expected wins, one-score results, fumble recovery balance, and qualified turnover-worthy-play margin identify unsustainable results.

Season-stage priors

Prior-year strength carries more weight in Weeks 1–4, fades in Weeks 5–8, and reaches zero in Week 9.

Availability remains neutral when a reliable team-level injury input is not published. Turnover-worthy-play coverage qualifies for the regression layer.
